Two–Thirds of Companies Oblivious To Energy Certification Requirement

A recent survey has revealed that 67% of companies were unaware that the EU’s Energy Performance of Building’s Directive should be of concern to them, not just homeowners.
Commissioned by Royal & Sun Alliance, the survey showed that 90% of commercial building occupants had little or no awareness that non-compliance with the Directive’s requirements could result in a £5,000 fine.
Energy Performance Certificates are required for the sale or rent of commercial buildings, with Display Energy Certificates required for all public buildings over 1,000m². The certificates grade a building between A and G according to factors such as its age and the efficiency of its Heating, air conditioning, double glazing, roof insulation, Lighting, use of water as well as CO² emissions per sqm of floor space.
