To help installers provide the most appropriate solution to meet the legal demands of Part L2 of the Building Regulations, Newey & Eyre has added a selection of Type B distribution boards and metering options to its already extensive product range, from leading manufacturers.
The Government introduced Part L2 of the Building Regulations to all non-domestic premises with a floor area greater than 500m2 that are either new build and existing buildings where improvements are made, in a bid to reduce carbon emissions and improve the efficiency of these premises. Part L2 demands that commercial property owners and occupiers can account for 90 per cent of the building’s energy consumption through metering, sub–metering and monitoring processes — setting high standards for architects, specifiers and contractors to provide customers with effective solutions.
Utilising the range of intelligent metering equipment and software available will not only allow operators to obtain a more detailed measurement of their energy consumption to highlight where savings can be made, they will also gain financially by cutting energy bills through good energy management. One key solution which reduces the need for a separate power and lighting meter is the Memshield 3 200A TPN Type B distribution board from Eaton. This innovative product combines an integrated split meter to provide independent net value readings for both power and lighting, as well as information about the total demand without further external calculations — all from a single meter.
With its unique MID–compliant meter design, suitable for TPN and SPN applications, this Type B distribution board calculates net values for each busbar section and total board load, enabling operators to effortlessly meter and monitor actual energy consumption. All units are fully type tested with a conditional short circuit rating of 25kA to BS EN 60439 to deliver safe, reliable and high performance protection for all electrical power distribution systems.
Another simple solution designed to meet Part L2 requirements is the Isobar 4c three phase split metering Type B distribution boards from Schneider Electric. With inbuilt meter and communications options, the Isobar 4c also offers straightforward metering of power and lighting, as well as the total load. The Isobar 4c is manufactured and tested to BS EN 60439–3 and comes pre–assembled and wired. This distribution board can also be supplied with extension enclosures for fitting of surge protection and remote switching, further extending functionality.
Hager’s new Invicta 3 range of Type B distribution boards also offer special features such as the simple installation of a pre–wired meter next to the incoming device within the standard size distribution board, as well as the unique cable entry flange eliminating the need for protective paxolin when installed, all contained in a stylish enclosure.
